To Lena Whitmore Elementary School!

Welcome to Lena Whitmore Elementary School’s web site!  Our teachers and parents have worked extremely hard to create a loving and safe environment for all children.  Here at Lena, we honor and celebrate ethnic, cultural and religious diversity.  Assisted by numerous parent and community volunteers, we take full advantage of the wisdom and educational experience of those who have become an invaluable part of the Lena family.

Since we believe that life presents unique opportunities for learning and discovery, we hope to create independent and creative thinkers who accept responsibility for their own learning.  We provide programs that take students far beyond the standards required by our State Department of Education and routinely supplement a variety of activities that compliment the district’s diverse curricula.  Our students typically score at or above the district average on most local and state assessments.

Life at Lena Whitmore is both exciting and enriching.  Just a few of our special activities include:  an annual 6th grade Environmental Field Camp, The 6th grade Career Fair, the Moscow School District’s Elementary Science Fair, School Spirit Days, Art Day, Math Day, Ismat Sheikh International Week, a Roots & Shoots Environmental Club, Garden Club, and Book-A-Bunga Day and the Moscow School District’s Adventure Club Program (we host this after-school day care program at our school).  We also have a close working relationship with the Palouse Clearwater Environmental Institute and Moscow’s Festival Dance organization so students frequently participate in unique environmental initiatives and cultural programs and presentations of great significance.

Family activities include a yearly open house and library book sale, grade level orientations, a school Walk-A-Thon and annual Sock Hop & School Carnival.  Parenting classes are offered each fall and our guidance counselor is skilled at connecting parents with needed resources.

We welcome you to the Moscow community and hope that you will enroll your children in the Moscow School District’s public education system.  Please stop in and visit with us anytime; we’d love to have the chance to acquaint you with our school and programs.
